Alfredo Cella I was born in Rome on 21 July 1895. He was a forward and one of the early pioneers of Lazio, playing for the club during the difficult years surrounding the First World War.
Cella made his first-team debut during the 1914-15 season, when Lazio had one of the strongest sides in Roman football.
He formed part of an attacking group that included players such as Fernando Saraceni, Marcello Consiglio, Giuseppe Furia and Alessandro Varini.
The outbreak of the First World War interrupted competitive football, but Cella remained involved with Lazio. He was also part of the squad during the limited wartime activity between 1916-18 seasons.
Cella was still playing for Lazio after the war. On 6 November 1921, he started alongside Dante Filippi and Angelo Volterra in Lazio's 1-0 victory over Foot Ball Club di Roma at the Rondinella.
He provided the assist for Filippi's winning goal.
His Lazio career covered the periods 1914-15 and 1919-22, during which he made 39 appearances and scored 11 goals in official matches.
Cella was the elder brother of Emilio Cella II, who also played for Lazio. He belongs to the generation of players who helped establish the Biancocelesti as one of the leading football clubs in Rome before the formation of the unified Roman football structure of the 1920s.
