The team

Maurizio Sarri decided to play Patric in midfield again instead of Nicolò Rovella. The idea was presumably to block Inter defensively and hope for the best on the counter-attack. Mattia Zaccagni returned to the team, while Gustav Isaksen was chosen as the right winger ahead of Matteo Cancellieri.

Since it was the final, the fans were back and were spectacular as usual. It was hoped that they could give Lazio the strength and courage to win. It was also hoped that Sarri had learned a lesson from Saturday's match.

The match

The game lasted 14 minutes. Corner for Inter, Federico Dimarco crossed and Adam Marušić headed the ball into his own net. The Nerazzurri attacked for the remainder of the first half, but it was another Biancocelesti blunder that gave them the 2–0. Nuno Tavares fell asleep in the 35th minute, Denzel Dumfries went down the left, and his ball into the middle found Lautaro Martínez. Game over.

Lazio did have a few opportunities to get back into the match, with Isaksen in the first half and Tijjani Noslin and Boulaye Dia in the second, but they never gave the impression that anything other than an Inter win was possible that night. Inter also had chances to make it 3–0 and looked dangerous every time they attacked, but the scoreline did not change.

The Biancocelesti had lost even before they stepped onto the pitch and made it far too easy for Inter. A big disappointment, not because of the result, which was always a possibility, but because of Lazio's attitude. A pity, since the fans had turned out in great numbers and produced a spectacular choreography. They deserved far more than what the Biancocelesti gave them.
