The season so far

The Third Category regional leagues took place in 1912. The Italian Football Federation still did not allow teams from the southern league to play for the scudetto (this would start from the next season) so for the moment Lazio had to face Audace Esperia, Juventus Roma, Fortitudo and Alba in the Lazio third category league. The games were played between March and May due to the more favourable weather conditions.

Lazio easily won the tournament with 18 points, winning all of the games except one. They also won the Easter Cup in April beating Roman 2-0.

Today was a different competition, the Coppa Ancherani. It was structured so on the same day the reserve teams would play for the Targa Tiro a Segno. Lazio won that game 12-0 ….

The match: Sunday, June 16, 1912, Parco dei Daini, Rome

Lazio dominated from the start to the finish and submerged Pro Roma with goals. It was a very hot day and it looked like the heat did not help the Pro Roma keeper Monti. The Biancocelesti opened their account with Giuseppe Fioranti in the 10th minute followed by Marcello Consiglio with a header, Fernando Saraceni with a powerful whack and another two Consiglio goals. However, on at least three occasions Monti could have done better.

In the second half Pro Roma were more aggressive but Lazio were ruthless and scored another six, twice with Saraceni, once with Corrado Corelli and the last two thanks to Consiglio.

To note that the only one to play both games of the day was Monti who had to pick up the ball from the back of the net 23 times. A record which stands to this day.

Elder brother of Angelo, Luigi Zucchi was a goalkeeper and midfield player for Lazio in the very early days.

He was part of the team that won the Perugia Trophy on September 1, 1907, when the match was abandoned because Lazio were 5-0 up after half an hour. He also won the Coppa Bacelli and Coppa Tosti.

After World War I he continued sport but stopped playing football. Records have found him participating in the javelin in 1920.

For what is known he made 5 appearances for the Biancocelesti.
