By thrashing Juventus Roma, the Biancocelesti win the Lazio League

The Third Category regional leagues took place in 1912. They were played between March and May due to the more favourable weather conditions. Lazio had so far won 8 of their 9 games, only losing one match against Audace Esperia. They were currently first together with Audace but had one game left against Juventus Roma which was originally supposed to be played on March 31 but was postponed. A win today would see the Biancocelesti regional champions.

The match

As soon as the referee started the game Lazio planted their flag in the Juventus penalty area and after five minutes went ahead with Marcello Consiglio thanks to a Corrado Corelli assist. Five more minutes and it was 2-0. Pino Fioranti tried a shot, Attilio Ruberti parried and Corelli was ready for the tap in.

At this point the game eased off a bit, also due to a better defensive layout from the hosts. Arnaldo Gaia IV later in the first half scored directly from a corner, but at that time this was against the rules and was hence disallowed.

In the second half, Juventus Roma put their foot on the accelerator and reduced the deficit thanks to a penalty taken by Ugo Monarchi. The home team sensed they could get an equaliser, but it was Lazio who scored again with Fernando Saraceni following an Amedeo Coraggio cross.

Augusto De Giuli then scored the 2-3 with a powerful shot and things started looking up again for the home side. But with three minutes to the end of the game the referee gave a penalty to Lazio taken and scored by Saraceni, then in the last minute there was another splendid goal from Corelli which closed the game.

Yet another trophy for the Biancocelesti.
