The Biancocelesti had lost their first fixture 3-0 at home to Juventus and had drawn their second in Florence. The situation was not easy.

The match

In the first quarter of an hour Vicenza dominated possession but did not create anything dangerous. In the 17th minute Ermes Muccinelli slalomed through the opposition, reached a favourable position but kicked wide. Not to worry. Three minutes later Pasquale Vivolo in the penalty area sensed that Muccinelli was nearby, ball to the Lugo di Romagna native and it was 1-0 for Lazio.

Not much happened after the goal. Vivolo tried a shot in the 22nd minute that went wide by a whisker and Muccinelli missed a sitter in the 40th minute on an Arne Selmosson assist.

The second half opened with Lazio’s second goal of the day. Umberto Pinardi to Vivolo who beat Pietro Chiappin for speed and once inside the box let go a missile that Giambattista Servidati could not do anything about.

Vicenza attacked furiously but it was the Biancocelesti to have the best chances to score, at least initially: in the 60th minute Servidati parried a Selmosson shot, three minutes later Arnaldo Lucentini shot too softly on a Praest cross.

In the 64th minute Giulio Savoini with a big whack from outside the box hit the crossbar. This scared Lazio who decided to concentrate more on the defensive side rather than try for a third. Despite this approach they did go near 3-0 with Luigi Fuin in the 75th minute when all alone in front of the keeper he tried a shot which hit the post. Vicenza had a last chance four minutes from time with Giorgio Valentinuzzi but Bob Lovati parried into corner.

All in all, a good win for the Biancocelesti, a much needed breath of fresh air.
