Game 34, Serie A
Monday April 28, 2025
Stadio Olimpico, Rome
Lazio Parma 2-2

A terrible game for the Biancocelesti salvaged by a Pedro brace
The team
Marco Baroni sent in the best and most logical team with the exception of Luca Pellegrini in place of the chronically injured Nuno Tavares. Lazio really needed to win today especially since they had come from four consecutive draws at the Olimpico.
The game should have been played on April 26 but it was postponed due to Pope Francis' funeral.
First half
Three minutes and Parma went ahead. Emanuele Valeri from the left crossed low, Mario Gila and Alessio Romagnoli watched as Jacob Ondrejka stopped the ball and easily beat Christos Mandas. The worst possible start for the Biancocelesti.
Lazio did virtually nothing for the entire first 45 minutes with the exception of a goal by Taty Castellanos which however was ruled offside.
The fans booed the team loudly as they went off at the end of the first half.
Second half
Two minutes and Parma scored again. Ondrejka went down the left, reached the edge of the box and crossed but the ball came back to him, walled by Gila and Matteo Guendouzi, perfect volley, 2-0.
Disaster for the Biancocelesti and Parma could even have made it three in the 54th minute when Gila lost the ball and sent Mateo Pellegrino on a one-to-one with Mandas but the Greek keeper managed to keep the Biancocelesti in the game.
At this point in came Pedro for Boulaye Dia. Cristian Chivu therefore also made changes, taking off Mateo Pellegrino and Ange-Yoan Bonny and putting in Milan Djuric and Hernani. In the 67th minute finally a decent chance for Lazio. Pedro to Pellegrini in the box but his attempted volley was saved by Zion Suzuki.
More substitutions: for Parma Ondrejka and Hainaut were substituted by Denis Man and Botond Balogh; for Lazio out Gustav Isaksen, Nicolò Rovella and Mattia Zaccagni, in Loum Tchaouna, Matias Vecino and Tijani Noslin.
In the 72nd minute one-two Man-Simon Sohm, the Romanian in front of Mandas tried a shot which the Lazio keeper managed to parry into corner.
In the 79th minute finally the Biancocelesti showed some signs of attempting a comeback. Pellegrini crossed from the left, Tchaouna volleyed, Suzuki saved, ball to Pedro who reduced the deficit.
Five minutes later it was 2-2. Pellegrini crossed again from the left and Pedro with a splendid header, like the one against Celtic, equalised.
A minute later Guendouzi from outside the box tried a shot which the Parma keeper saved into corner. Lazio pushed forward trying for a winner but Man had the match point when he went off on the counter attack but once inside the box slightly left he tried a shot which went wide.
In the last possible assault, Romagnoli was clearly fouled in the penalty area, but not for the referee.
Another home draw for Lazio, another missed opportunity.
