A hot and sunny afternoon saw about 50,000 present at the Olimpico.

Before the game Beppe Signori was crowned by the fans for being top Serie A scorer for the previous season and was given a crown... literally… a gold one.

Lazio had no absences apart from long term injured Paul Gascoigne.

Torino were without defender Giulio Falcone plus midfielders Paolo Cristallini and Abedi Pelé.

Lazio's superiority was clear from the start. In the 3rd minute directly from a corner, already Lazio's fourth, Signori hit the crossbar. Two minutes later Alen Boksic fed José Antonio Chamot who forgot he was a defender and dribbled past a Toro player but then shot slightly high.

In the 7th minute the visitors realised they had to do something and Vittorio Tosto had an effort from the left side but Luca Marchegiani blocked.

On the quarter of an hour mark Signori tried a shot but it was deflected.

In the 17th minute Torino threatened with a Gianluca Pessotto header but Marchegiani saved comfortably.

In the 19th minute Lazio suffered a blow as Roberto Cravero hobbled off and was replaced by former Torino youth player Roberto Bacci.

In the 26th minute Lazio scored. Giorgio Venturin won the ball back and Roberto Rambaudi lifted it over Jocelyn Angloma to Signori who volleyed past Luca Pastine who touched it but couldn't keep it out, 1-0.

The floodgates now opened and Lazio had several chances; a Boksic shot saved by Pastine and a Signori lob just high before the second goal. In the 36th minute Roberto Di Matteo to Boksic who ran half the field and with the outside of his right foot beat Pastine, 2-0 a superb goal.

In the 39th minute the "Alien" Boksic had another lovely goal disallowed. A minute later Signori went around Pastine but his finish was not hard enough and Roberto Maltagliati managed to save on the line.

Lazio's third however came another minute later. In the 41st minute a Boksic-Venurin-Bacci move was fired home by Signori, 3-0.

Lazio were flying. Halftime came with the Biancocelesti three nil up and in complete control. There had been a brief moment, between the 7th and 17th minutes when it had seemed Toro could compete but then they had been blown away.

There were no changes at the break.

There were no changes in the game either. Lazio had chances with Venturin in the 51st minute but his shot was high, Boksic in the 57th but Pastine saved and with Signori in the 63rd after Pastine gave the ball away but this time Beppe-gol was off target.

Meanwhile in the 54th minute Torino had put on a forward Ruggiero Rizzitelli for midfielder Tosto and Lazio had replaced Boksic with Gigi Casiraghi in the 62nd.

In the 68th minute the Granata had an inviting opportunity to reduce the deficit but Andrea Silenzi unmarked managed to miss the target.

In the 72nd minute the visitors made their second and last substitution bringing on Sean Sogliano for Marco Sinigaglia.

The game went quiet as Lazio comfortably controlled the proceedings.

It revived slightly in the last five minutes. In the 84th Venturin headed wide from a Chamot cross, in the 89th Marchegiani came out of his area and headed the ball away and it reached Gianluca Pessotto whose attempted lob flew over the bar and in the 89th Marchegiani saved a Giuseppe Scienza effort. Final score Lazio 3 Torino 0.

An easy and convincing win for Lazio who had it all wrapped up by halftime. Boksic and Signori in particular had been devastating and given far too much space by Torino.
