Juventus Lazio 1-0
The Biancocelesti exit the Coppa Italia. A poor performance against Juventus.
The teams
Maurizio Sarri decides to put Ciro Immobile in the centre of the attack, Luis Maximiano in goal, Mattias Vecino in midfield and Patric in defence. In other words a little bit of turnover compared to the previous Serie A game. New signing Luca Pellegrini is on the bench. Massimiliano Allegri also makes a few changes and in comes Mattia Perin, Alex Sandro and for the first time playing together are Enrico Chiesa and Dusan Vlahovic.
The match
The game is played right from the start at a slow rhythm, typical of Coppa Italia games where the big teams are not that interested. This is why one of the semi-finals will be Fiorentina Cremonese.
The first real chance is Lazio’s. Quick counterattack in the 14th minute, Immobile to Felipe Anderson on the right, cross in the centre just outside the box again for King Ciro who completely misses the shot, ball to Mattia Zaccagni on the right whose curving shot is however rather wide. A minute later Filip Kostic on the left to Vlahovic who passes it back to the Serb. Kostic enters the box and shoots, great save by Maximiano.
In the 28th minute Danilo crosses the ball in the box from the right, Manuel Lazzari clears the ball, Kostic picks it up near the corner on the left, immediate cross in the box for Adrien Rabiot whose header is easily saved by the Lazio goalkeeper. Five minutes later Danilo Cataldi to Felipe Anderson outside the box but centre, his shot is just wide.
Juventus score in the 44th minute. Long cross from the left by Chiesa, ball goes to the other side of the pitch. Kostic moves out of the box and crosses in. Maximiano sees the danger and tries to anticipate Bremer who has a positional advantage over Lazzari. The Portuguese goalkeeper is anticipated by the Braziian and it’s 1-0 for Juve.
A dismal first half from either side, but Juventus is leading.
Sarri decides to change Immobile, clearly out of form, with Pedro and move Felipe Anderson to the centre for the beginning of the second half.
Lazio have control of the game but are never dangerous. Juventus are content with administrating the lead. A Manuel Locatelli shot in the 67th minute is easily saved by Maximiano. Three minutes later Moise Kean on the counterattack has a chance but it his shot is again saved by the Lazio keeper.
Lazio’s only chance comes in the 77th minute when an Adam Marusic shot from outside the box is wide by a whisker.
Nothing else of note happens and Juventus win. They will play Inter in the semi-final. A really boring game with very few chances for either side, but Lazio deservedly out of the Coppa Italia.
