The teams

Maurizio Sarri changes a few players for the Coppa Italia. Luis Maximiano is back after his mistake in the first game of the season, Adam Marusic is given a night off (initially) with the return of Manuel Lazzari, and Patric substitutes Nicolò Casale.

The match

Lazio’s first chance of the game comes after just a few seconds. Felipe Anderson receives the ball in the box on the right. His quick shot is well saved by Lukasz Skorupski.

In the 12th minute Mattia Zaccagni goes off on the left wing, moves towards the centre and from outside the box shoots. The Bologna keeper saves.

Six minutes later, cross in the Bologna box and Joaquin Sosa trying to anticipate Zaccagni sends the ball just over the crossbar.

A minute later, Zaccagni again on the left leaves behind him a number of Bologna players, ball towards the centre setting up Sergej Milinkovic-Savic for the shot. The Serb’s attempt is too central and Skorupski saves.

Lazio at this point take a breather and leave the initiative to Bologna who are never particularly dangerous.

In the 33rd minute Lazio go ahead in almost exactly the same way they scored in the derby. Pedro steals the ball from Sosa at the edge of the Bologna penalty box on the right, ball in the centre and Felipe Anderson volleys it in. 1-0 for Lazio.

Bologna increase the pressure but the Lazio defence is solid and nothing else happens in the first half.

Two changes for Bologna at the beginning of the second 45 minutes. In come Jhon Lucumì and Gary Medel for Adama Soumaro and Jerdy Schouten.

In the 48th minute Zaccagni crosses from the left, Milinkovic-Savic jumps high in the air but he heads the ball over the crossbar.

In the 54th minute, Lazzari from the right crosses a high ball, Luis Alberto’s volley is not particularly dangerous.

Further changes between the 64th and 67th minute for both teams. In come Roberto Soriano, Joshua Zirkee and Niklas Pyyhtia for Michel Aebischer, Riccardo Orsolini and Medel (injured) for Bologna. Sarri changes Lazzari and Alessio Romagnoli and in come Marusic and Nicolò Casale.

In the 69th minute Zaccagni has his shot deflected by a Bologna defender, it is picked up by Felipe Anderson but his shot is well saved by Skorupski.

Nothing much happens with the exception of three Lazio substitutions. In the 80th minute in come Matias Vecino and Luka Romero for Milinkovic-Savic and Pedro, in injury time Marcos Antonio replaces Danilo Cataldi.

Lazio cruise to victory, Bologna never dangerous. The Biancocelesti played well and it looks as if the problems in the first two games of the year have been left behind. The next Campionato game against Milan will tell.

Next Coppa Italia match will be in Turin against Juventus for the quarter finals.
