Game 30, Serie A
Sunday, April 22, 1934
Stadio PNF, Rome
Lazio Casale 2-1
A goal each from the two Fantonis allow Lazio to keep the advantage on the relegation zone

Lazio were currently eleventh on 27 points, four above the relegation zone. It was certainly not a season to remember, but the main objective was to stay in Serie A so a win today would maintain the four-point gap from the bottom with just two matches to play.
The match
Casale started strongly and had a couple of corners early in the match but Lazio managed to score in the 8th minute. Anfilogino Guarisi took a free kick from the edge of the box, the shot was walled, Francesco Gabriotti headed the ball towards the goal Vincenzo Provera did not move and Octavio Fantoni II volleyed the ball in.
Casale attacked, Lazio tried to score a second and this meant that the game was enjoyable. Piero Castello was dominating the midfield and as a consequence Casale managed to equalise. In the 25th minute Leopoldo Caimmi passed to Antonio Peternel who left the ball for Luigi De Marchi, massive whack, Pietro Brandani was taken by surprise and it was 1-1. Gabriotti then had a couple of chances but the score remained 1-1 at the end of the first half.
The level score did not last long once the second half began. Gabriotti in the 47th minute advanced and took a shot, Provera parried but the ball slipped away, Joao Fantoni I was ready for the tap in, Lazio 2 Casale 1.
The visitors tried a comeback but their momentum was short lived. The Biancocelesti took control of the match but in the 52nd minute Guarisi was sent off for a dirty foul on Caimmi. In the 57th minute Alejandro Demaria was about to score one metre from Provera but Giordano Roggero deflected the ball with his fist. It should have been a penalty but the referee said play on. The fans were not happy and things became tense on the pitch. But it all blew over in a few minutes and things calmed down. From then on nothing much happened with the exception of an Angelo Schiavetta shot which hit the woodwork three minutes from time. Lazio finished the match practically in nine men since Pedro Rizzetti, injured, was moved out to the wing.
