The team

Back from the International break, Maurizio Sarri could now rely on Danilo Cataldi but lost both Patric and Mario Gila injured. Pedro, despite not performing well at Bologna, was again chosen as replacement for Mattia Zaccagni.

First half

After two games where Lazio could be on the defensive and do what they do best – the counterattack – how were they going to cope against a well organised defence like Parma’s? Terribly.

It would have been important not to concede an early goal and that is exactly what they did. After an Adrian Bernabé attempt in the 11th minute, in the 15th there was a freekick from the left for the visitors. Emanuele Valeri crossed, the ball hovered in the box, Enrico Delprato was quickest to shoot and Parma went ahead.

The Biancocelesti were completely absent from then onwards. Incapable of creating anything dangerous. Too many players on the edge of the box and nobody inside so crosses were pointless. It would have been nice if they could actually put a good ball into the box but even there they failed. Parma went close to a second in the 44th minute when Valeri tried a shot forcing Edoardo Motta to an exceptional save.

Second half

It was hoped that Sarri would change something to make the attack more dangerous but he did not, sticking to his original eleven. Then in the 58th minute he made three changes: out went Adam Marusic, Gustav Isaksen and Pedro, in came Manuel Lazzari, Matteo Cancellieri and Tijani Noslin.

At least they began to shoot at goal. Shots from Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Kenneth Taylor and Lazzari however did not do much more than allow Zion Suzuki to warm up a little bit. Then finally a spark in the 77th minute. Noslin-Taylor one-two, the Dutch striker tried a shot deflected by Alessandro Circati, Suzuki was going to the right while the ball went left and ended up in the net.

But this was all Lazio managed to do. There was a penalty appeal by Parma for a Nuno Tavares hand ball but it was turned down for offside. Biancocelesti back to their bad habits.
