Lazio Roma 1-1
Lazio dominate but are held to a draw in the derby
The team
After the surprise defeat in Europa League against Bodo/Glimt and the previous surprising victory in Bergamo, Lazio were called to a must win derby. Marco Baroni left Mario Gila on the bench and put in Samuel Gigot with Luca Pellegrini taking the place of injured Nuno Tavares.
First half
In the 7th minute, the first opportunity for Lazio. Free kick from the left, Gustav Isaksen crossed, Alessio Romagnoli headed towards the goal, great save from Mile Svilar into corner. In the 22nd minute the Dane dribbled past a few players in the box and close to the goal tried a shot, again saved into corner by the Roma keeper. Isaksen tried again with a curling shot in the 37th minute, parried into corner once more.
Roma played the ball more but Lazio had the chances and would have deserved to be ahead.
Second half
In the interval Claudio Ranieri took off Leandro Paredes and put in Bryan Cristante.
In the 47th minute free kick on the left for the Biancocelesti. Luca Pellegrini crossed into the box and Romagnoli headed the ball into the net for Lazio’s deserved 1-0.
At this point Roma put their foot on the accelerator to get an equaliser and in the 54th minute Gianluca Mancini headed the ball towards the goal from a corner, splendid save by Christos Mandas. Another substitution for Roma: Eldor Shomurodov in for Lorenzo Pellegrini in the 59th minute. In the 65th minute Mattia Zaccagni tried a wonderful curling shot from outside the box, just wide.
In the 69th minute completely against the run of play Roma equalised. Matias Soulé from outside the box tried a curling shot, nothing Mandas could do. A splendid goal.
Baroni threw in Boulaye Dia and Pedro who took the place of Taty Castellanos and Isaksen. Pedro was immediately dangerous with a shot in the 75th minute, once more Svilar parried into corner.
In the 76th minute Pellegrini crossed from the left, Evan Ndicka anticipated Dia kicking the ball towards his goalkeeper, Svilar parried, Dia was ready for the tap in but slipped and his half attempt was saved by the keeper.
More substitutions: Tijani Noslin and Reda Belahyane for Zaccagni and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru for Lazio, Tommaso Baldanzi, Stephan El Shaarawy and Devyne Rensch for Artem Dovbyk, Soulé and Alexis Saelemaekers.
In the final seconds corner for Lazio. Pedro crossed and the ball arrived to Noslin who was not able to make contact.
Final score 1-1. Roma had Svilar and Soulé to thank but Lazio should have done better.
