The 1979-80 season for Lazio was the annus horribilis. First the assassination of Vincenzo Paparelli, then the arrest of four players for the Totonero scandal, the miraculous avoidance of Serie B only to be unjustly relegated despite the fact the club committed no irregularity.

Lazio 1979-80
Serie A: Lazio had reached 13th place but were later relegated due to the Totonero scandal. The scudetto was won by Inter.
Coppa Italia: The Biancoclesti were eliminated in the quarter finals. The cup was won by Roma
