The team

Rino Gattuso confirmed most of the eleven that had started against Bologna, with the injured Adam Marušić and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru the only absentees. That meant places in the starting eleven for Romano Floriani and Davide Frattesi.

New signing Andrea Pinamonti, who had only just arrived, started on the bench.

First half

Lazio began the match in the same vein as the game in Bologna and, in the 11th minute, came close to taking the lead.

Following a Mattia Zaccagni corner, Danilho Doekhi rose higher than everyone else but, despite being in a favourable position, failed to make a clean connection and his header went wide.

In the 25th minute, the Biancocelesti scored.

Nuno Tavares tried to pass to Frattesi through Mikael Ellertsson's legs. It did not work, but the ball remained with the Portuguese international, who sprinted down the left, went past the Norwegian and, from the byline, delivered the ball into the middle. Frattesi arrived at the right moment and volleyed it underneath the goalkeeper.

1-0 to Lazio and a second consecutive goal for the former Inter midfielder.

In the 37th minute, Gattuso was forced to replace Nicolò Rovella with Reda Belahyane. Yet another injury for Rovella, who has had very little luck over the past year.

The Biancocelesti almost doubled their lead on the stroke of half-time. Frattesi broke forward on the counter-attack and crossed towards the middle, where Nuno Tavares tried a header that went narrowly wide.

Almost immediately afterwards, Frattesi sent a long ball down the left for Zaccagni. The Lazio captain was anticipated by Alessandro Marcandalli, who tried to pass the ball back to Justin Bijlow. The pass was slightly too short, and Zaccagni and the goalkeeper raced towards it. The Lazio captain arrived first, but his touch was intercepted by Bijlow.

Genoa, who had done very little for most of the first half, finally woke up in injury time. Brooke Norton-Cuffy delivered a marvellous cross from the left which caught the Lazio defence by surprise, but Ellertsson was a fraction too late to reach it.

Second half

Genoa attacked more after the break but were rarely dangerous. Lazio remained in complete control and tried several shots from outside the box, although none troubled Bijlow.

In the 75th minute came the biggest chance of the half. Alfonso Pedraza, who had replaced Nuno Tavares, found Gustav Isaksen, on for Matteo Cancellieri. The Dane tried a shot which was deflected and turned into a perfect assist for Doekhi.

Completely unmarked in front of the goalkeeper, however, the defender attempted an improbable lob which sailed over the crossbar.

Four minutes later, Genoa came desperately close to an equaliser. Norton-Cuffy sent a long ball towards the centre, Milutin Osmajić headed it towards the Lazio defence and Franz-Ethan Meichtry got there ahead of Oliver Provstgaard and Floriani.

He raced towards Christos Mandas and, once inside the box, tried his luck, but his shot went wide.

A massive chance for Genoa.

In the 88th minute, Belahyane found Pinamonti inside the box. The new signing had just replaced Boulaye Dia and managed to turn before letting off a shot. It went narrowly wide.

Genoa had one final attempt in stoppage time when Morten Frendrup tried his luck, but Mandas safely palmed the ball over the bar.

And that was it.

Two out of two for Lazio. Two out of two for Frattesi.
